Salamando, Peter F.

Born in Nogales, Arizona, Peter died in Tucson at 83 on April
30, 2010, following a short illness. A descendant of the
Saldamando and Taylor pioneer families of Santa Cruz
County, Arizona, Peter leaves behind family and friends who
will love, respect, and remember him forever. Of his many
accomplishments he was most proud of his service as a
volunteer at 17 into the U.S. Navy, where he served during
World War II. Upon his discharge, he attended the University
of Arizona and graduated from UCLA. His subsequent theater
work in New York City led to opportunity in Puerto Rico
where for a number of years he produced, wrote and
directed a variety television show. He came to San Diego in
the 1980s and worked in the Classified section of the San
Diego Union-Tribune. A member of Actors Alliance of San
Diego, his writing talents were highlighted by local play
readings and a reading at the Ashland, Oregon Shakespeare
Festival. His commanding voice and humorous asides
provided his family with the strength and faith to continue
even to his last few days at Veterans Hospital Hospice in
Tucson. "I lived a full life without regrets, some
disappointments, and surrounded by the love and warmth of
family and good friends; who would want for anything more?"
He is survived by his beloved sister and her husband, Julia and
Kort Neumann of Nogales, Arizona; his brother Richard of Key
West, Florida; his cousin-sister Jamalle Simon of Tucson;
nieces, nephew, great-nieces and nephews, many cousins and
friends . A Mass will be held May 21, 2010, at Sacred Heart
Church in Nogales followed by a private service at the family
plot.
