Barlow, Lillie Lillie Barlow passed away peacefully on May 7, 2010 at the age of 105. She was born on June 19, 1905, in New Mexico before it became a state in 1912. She received her teaching credentials from the New Mexico Normal University and went on to teach rural children in one-room schools throughout Bernalillo, San Miguel, and Mora counties. She and her husband, George, moved to San Diego with their two daughters in 1936. She worked for the Bell telephone company, and during World War II, she received government clearance to work in the San Diego Office of Censorship. Her creativity, outgoing personality, and love of fashion led to her work in retail sales at both Jacobson's and Marston's where she also modeled in fashion shows. She loved to entertain at home and, as with everything else, she did it with a style that was legendary among her many guests. She was preceded in death by her husband George, her eldest daughter Nellie Krieger, her granddaughter Stephanie Fleming, and her great-grandson Myles Lussier. She is survived and will be missed by her loving daughter and best friend Nicole Bauman; her grandchildren Marcia Lussier, Valerie Cass, Craig English, Tamara Swanson, Leslie English, Ingrid Ruiz, and Carl Swanson; her nine great-grandchildren, her two great-great- grandchildren, and by the children of her beloved brother, Alfonso Sanchez. A memorial mass will be held on Friday afternoon, May 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 1638 Polk Avenue, San Diego. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that donations be made to San Diego Hospice, which can be contacted by calling 1-866- 688-1600.
