Marin-Finn, Madeleine

December 27, 2009

Madeleine Marin-Finn lost her courageous six-year battle with
ovarian cancer on December 27, 2009, at the age of 56. She passed
away peacefully at her home on Balboa Peninsula with her family at
her side.

Madeleine was the eldest child born to Manuel and Regina Curi
Marin in Guines, Havana, Cuba. At the early age of seven, her family
fled their once-privileged life in Cuba and settled briefly in New
York City. After one very cold winter in New York, the family first
moved to Miami and eventually relocated in West Los Angeles.
Madeleine graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1972 and from
Loyola Marymount University in 1977 with a B.S. in chemical
engineering. Following college, she embarked on an engineering
career at TRW. From her first marriage to Michael Piraino, Madeleine
gave birth to her son, Jonathan.

In 1984, Madeleine married Kevin Finn and moved to Palos Verdes.
The couple had two sons, Daniel and Patrick, and the family moved
to Newport Beach in 1993. Madeleine was involved in many
charitable organizations, including Casa Teresa, Habitat for
Humanity and the USC Our Savior Catholic Center, where she was
not only a very generous contributor through the Marin-Finn
Foundation but also served in various board positions. She was an
active parishioner at Our Lady Queen of Angeles Church, both as a
member of the Parish Council and a lector. Madeleine cherished her
competitive tennis at Newport Beach Tennis Club, golf at Big
Canyon Country Club and boating at Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

In addition to Kevin and her three sons, Madeleine is survived by
her brothers, Manuel (Cindy) Marin and Jorge (Maria) Marin, her
sister, Reggie (Patrick) Finnegan, her stepchildren, Kerry and
Meghan Finn, her daughter-in-law, Catherine Piraino, her brother-in-
law, Dennis (Marie) Finn, her aunts, her many cousins, 16 nieces and
nephews and two grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her
parents, Manuel and Regina, and her step-daughter, Tara Finn.

A Rosary will be said on Madeleine's behalf at 7 p.m. on Sunday,
January 3rd at Our Lady Queen of Angeles Church in Newport
Beach. A funeral mass celebrating Madeleine's life will be held at
11 a.m. on Monday, January 4th, also at Our Lady Queen of Angeles
Church with a reception to follow at Big Canyon Country Club. In
lieu of flowers, Madeleine's family requests that donations for
ovarian cancer research be made to Hoag Hospital Foundation, c/o
The Madeleine Marin-Finn Account, 500 Superior Ave., Suite 350,
Newport Beach, CA 92658-6100.
