Alfred L. Kienitz was born December 11, 1918 to John & Emma Mielke Kienitz. Al was the oldest of four siblings; Helen Wrase of Windom, Minn., Max Kienitz and George Kienitz of Raymond, Minn. He was preceded in death by his wife Artelle Hall Kienitz, his parents, brothers, and a great grandson Jace Vawter. Al grew up on the family farm near Raymond, Minn., until he was drafted into the Army in 1941. He spent over four years as a cook and was honorably discharged. He used many of his mother's recipes to provide tasty meals to the soldiers. Al met Artelle Hall while stationed in Banning, Calif., and they were married in February 1945. They had one son, John Hall Kienitz. Al and Artelle celebrated over 50 years of marriage until her death in 1995. While living in California, Al farmed three thousand acres in the Beaumont area. He also sold agriculture equipment for twelve years. Al was known to make some unusual deals. One time he even took a team of miniature mules in on trade. Al was involved in Kiwanis for fifty years, and was very active in his church. He was a member of the Beaumont School Board, and was a longtime 4-H leader. Al moved to Emmett in 1997 where he spent the remaining years of his life surrounded by his family. He was a regular at several livestock auctions around the Treasure Valley. Even toward the end of his life, he continued to trade livestock. Al was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Emmett where he attended regularly. Al was very proud of his family. He had three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Surviving Al are his son John Kienitz and wife Karon of Emmett; sister Helen Wrase of Windom, Minn.; grandchildren Beth Carter and husband Grant of Boise, Amy Phillips, Chris Kienitz of Emmett; great-grandchildren Jordan Vawter, Rose, Devin, and Kyler Kienitz of Emmett; several nieces and nephews. On Monday, November 23, 2009 the family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Chapel at 228 E Main St, Emmett, ID from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Emmett Cemetery. The procession will leave the Chapel at 1:45p.m. The memorial service will follow the committal at 3 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 407 S Hayes Ave, Emmett, Idaho.
