Nancy A. Powell

finding words that adequately express our sense of loss
is tantamount to capturing the sea in a teacup. Nancy A.
Powell, mother, sister, aunt, grandma and best friend,
traded her wheels for flight on November 12, 2009, one
month short of her 76th birthday. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Milton and Thelma Hazel Anderson;
brother, Eric; husband of 37 years, William G. Powell
Sr. and son, William G. Powell, Jr. A survivor of polio,
Nancy was one of life's true steel magnolias; she was
the embodiment of class. She was born in Glendale,
California and raised in Bisbee, Arizona. Nancy was a
1952 graduate of Bisbee High School. Afterward, she went
on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Business from the
University of Arizona. In 1969, she returned to the
University of Arizona where she went on to earn a Juris
Doctorate. She is survived by her sisters, Ora Neva
"Sug" Buchanon and Mary Ellen Flanders; her five
remaining children, Laura (Harold) Buck, Robin Burkhart,
David (Kyle) Powell, Luana Powell and Valerie (Gregg)
Ferguson, in addition to seven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. Nancy had a long and successful
career in the fields of law and education, proving to
all who knew her that the greatest handicaps are those
that are self-imposed.
