Josephine Dorothy Matranga

At rest on November 16, 2009 at age 97, a native of San
Francisco. Josephine was the loving wife of the late
Frank G. Matranga for 61 years, cherished mother of
Frances (William) Posedel, George Matranga, Joseph
(Judith) Matranga and the late Joanne Matranga. Proud
grandmother of Christina (Robert Tirk) and Karena
(Matthew Whorton) Posedel, Rebekah Thomson, Michelle
(Nicholas Urrea), Geoffrey (Kimberly), Carolyn, Benjamin
and Franklin Matranga. Adored great grandmother of
Sheana and Casey Clancy, Jacob Tirk and Ryan Urrea.
Josephine was the last survivor of the six children of
Giuseppe and Josephine Cancilla. She is also survived by
many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and
friends. Josephine was born and raised in San Francisco
and attended Mission High School before graduating from
Business College. She was a long time parishioner of
Immaculate Conception Chapel and St. John the Evangelist
Parishes, a charter member of ICF Branch #1, member of
the Young at Heart Club, Past President of the
Congregation of Children of Mary and a retired city
employee. Her family meant the world to her and she
provided them with ongoing inspiration. Family and
friends may visit after 4:00 PM Sunday and are invited
to attend the Vigil services also on Sunday at 7:00 PM
and the Funeral Service on Monday at 10:00 AM from the
chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co., 4840 Mission
St., SF then to Immaculate Conception where a 10:30 AM
Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Committal to follow at
the Italian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to
Immaculate Conception Chapel or St. John the Evangelist
