| James Lee Henderson, affectionately known as "Olu," died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Mesa surrounded by his family. Olu was born on December 1, 1938 in New Madrid, Missouri. He moved to Arizona in 1987 and served many years as a Deacon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and as President of the Brotherhood Association. He also Co Founded the Mesa Committee for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and was in numerous stage plays in and around the valley, some with the Arizona Black Theater Troop. He is survived by his immediate family members: wife, Chellette three daughters, Jalila Jones (Charence), Karima Hassell (Marlon), Sakinah Henderson and nine grandchildren. Home going Celebrations will be Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 11:00 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 56 S. Robson Street in Mesa. Published in The Arizona Republic on December 4, 2009 |
