Hernandez, John G.

"Cachitas", 86, born to Manuel and Carmen Hernandez on Jan. 31, 1923
in Phoenix, Ariz. was born to eternal life on Oct. 21, 2009. A
wonderful, loving and dedicated husband and father, he shared 62 years
of married life with his beloved wife, Barbara, his "Tortolita". He
was a WWII Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Boy Scout leader,
long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and volunteer at
St. Vincent de Paul Society. He retired from Capital Foundry after 44
years of dedicated service. He is preceded in death by four brothers
(Pedro, Adolfo, Manuel Jr. and Ernesto), and three sisters (Elisa
Vargas, Carmen Mercado and Mary Garcia) and survived by one sister
Stella (Memo) Pineda. He is survived by his wife Barbara and children:
Sally Martinez, Carmen (Lope) Ribodal, Lucia (Benny) Estrada and John
(Rosie) Hernandez; his nine grandchildren: Stephanie, Barbara, Suzanne
(Gabriel), John, Sonia, Jessica, Stephen, Benjamin and Lope; and five
great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Adrianna, Stephen, Lilianna and
Christian. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m., with Rosary at 7
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1421 S. 12th
St., Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct.
26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St.
Francis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations be sent in memory of John to Sacred Heart, St. Vincent de
Paul Conference, 1421 S. 12th St. Phoenix, AZ 85034.
