SULLIVAN, MARILYN FLECK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Sullivan, 80, who passed away on October 20, 2009, surrounded by her family. St. Peter welcomed her into heaven. A longtime La Jolla resident, Marilyn was a devout Catholic and a founding member of All Hallows Catholic Church. Marilyn Fleck was born in 1929 in Bismarck, North Dakota. She attended St. Catherine's College in Minnesota and was elected homecoming queen of nearby St. John's College. She transferred to the University of Colorado where she was the first woman to earn a degree in Business, graduating at the top of her class. In 1952, she married James O'Keefe Sullivan, her beloved husband of fifty-two years. Marilyn was an accomplished needlepoint artist whose framed pictures and floral rugs added great beauty to her homes. She had elegant taste in interior design and was known for her many beautiful homes. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker and cook, Marilyn loved to spend time with her many incredible friends. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and hosting and attending social events. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting beautiful outfits. She was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed. Marilyn was preceded in death in 2004 by her loving husband Jim and her loving son Brian in 1992 and is survived by her sons Michael, Robert, and Mark Sullivan and her daughters Nancy Dowell and Lynne Markham. She is also survived by her five grandchildren Jennifer, Elisabeth, Jackson, Erica and Caroline, her sons-in-law David Markham and David Dowell, and her brother and sister Bob Fleck and Lucy Fields. A Mass to celebrate Marilyn's life will be offered at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26th, at All Hallows Catholic Church, 6602 La Jolla Scenic Drive South, La Jolla, CA.
