Lillie Pitts Anderson

died in Marin County, CA, on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. The
daughter of Barton and Lillie Pitts, she was born in St. Joseph,
MO, July 3, 1932. Barton Pitts was the owner and operator of
local radio and television stations in her hometown for many
years. In 1953, Lillie graduated from Southern Methodist
University in Dallas with a degree in journalism. She was proud
of her career as a journalist, working first in New York for
Harpers Bazaar and later for Look Magazine in San Francisco,
where she relocated in the late 1950s. Later in life, she earned
her masters degree in education at Dominican College in Marin
County, and worked with learning disabled children and adults.
Survived by her daughter, Emily Fraim; her step-daughters, Burr
Leonard and Mimi Fleischman; and her adored grandchildren, Bryan
and Riley Fraim, Brandon and Damon Sweetland, Adam and Juliet
Rubin and Andrea and Megan Liming. She was predeceased by her
husband, Peter Anderson; and her daughter, Lillie Leonard
Sweetland. Lillie was very active in many social, environmental
and political causes, including the Sierra Club and Glide
Foundation, and was a tireless worker for the Democratic Party
her entire life. Her adventurous, fearless spirit and her energy
and charm earned her many friends everywhere she went. She was
truly an extraordinary and unique human being. Memorial services
will be held at a later date in Marin County.
