Wallace, Alston "Wally" Passed away on April 29, 2010 at home with his family around him. He fought a courageous two year battle of cancer. Wally was born on April 10, 1932 to the parents of Nancy & Jullian Wallace in Durham, N.C. He grew up on a farm in Gainesville, Florida until he went to Duke University. He graduated with a degree in Chemistry in 1953. He has always loved his beloved Duke Blue Devils Basketball team. He joined the marines after graduation and became a Naval Aviator in 1954. He loved to fly. He flew mostly Banshee, Panther and Cougar jets. In 1957 Wally went to work in the Aerospace Industry arid managed missile tracking stations all over the world. He was lucky enough to meet all seven Mercury Astronauts. He also worked at several Air Force Bases. In the early 1980's he did asbestos removal in several states. In the early 1990's he got into the plumbing business and started his own company Alston Fire and Water specializing in installing and repairing backflow preventers. He retired in 2007 at the age of 75. WalIy is survived by his wife Darlene and four sons, Howard, Joe, Bill & John, his stepchildren Bruce Barnes and Barbara Myler. Also his sister Rue Judd and two nieces Nancy Armstrong & SaIIie Abelows. He also had 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. There will be a celebration of his life held at a later date.
