Barnes, Herbert Elijah Herbert Elijah Barnes 7/20/13 - 4/21/10 Herbert Barnes passed away on April 21, 2010 at the age of 96, at his home with his family and four cats at his side. He was born in Clyde, New York to parents, Eva Pausley & Alvin Barnes at the Barnes Farm east of Ferguson Corners on July 20, 1913. He was a resident of New York, Reno, NV., Florida, California, and lived his last 14 years in Springfield, Oregon. He raised his daughter, Sheryl with his beloved wife Virginia, who preceded him in death in May 2005. They were married 41 years. He was a farmer, cowboy, bodyman/journeyman and retired as an apartment manager at age 82. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking & had a heart for rescuing stray and abandoned animals. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting & watching Western movies with his friends and family. Herbert survived being run over by a train, thrown into a thrasher, and many heart attacks. He always said "You can't keep a stubborn Dutchman down." You could always tell when mischief was imminent by the twinkle in his blue eyes. He is survived by his daughter, Sheryl (Lucky) Alves, his son-in-law, Joe Alves Sr.; and his grandchildren Taryn Alves and Joe Alves Jr. of Springfield, Oregon. He also leaves behind 11 nieces and nephews, 29 great nieces and nephews and many many friends. He was preceded in death by his elder brother, Elmer Barnes; younger brother, Arnold Barnes, and his much loved great niece, Yvonne Montana Schott, all of New York. A Cowboy Celebration of his life will be held at the Village Inn Apartments recreation room on Marcola Road in Springfield on Sat., May 1st at 2:00 pm. He loved God, his family, his friends and his kitties. He will be very much missed by his many loving friends and family members.
