Reverend Edward Michael Cleary, Jr. Dec. 14, 1920 - July 7, 2009 In Greenbrae, CA, dearly beloved son of the late Edward Sr. and Annie Cleary; beloved brother of the late John Cleary; loving cousin of Maureen Lenihan and Katie Burke. A native of Sonoma, graduate of Sonoma Valley High School, a U.S. Navy Veteran WWII, attended St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park and was ordained to the priesthood in San Francisco on June 16, 1956, at St Mary's Cathedral. He served at St. John the Baptist in Napa, St. Martin of Tours in San Jose, St. Finn Barr and St. Bridget's in San Francisco, St. Matthew in San Mateo and St. Raphael in San Rafael. He was pastor of Holy Angels in Colma 1976-1990 and St. James in San Francisco 1990-1995. After retiring, Father Cleary continued to serve at Our Lady of Mercy in Daly City and St. Veronica's in South San Francisco. He then resided at Nazareth House in San Rafael. Father Cleary said mass on Thursdays at St. Francis in Sonoma. He was active with many pro life groups and he was a member of YMI and ICF at Holy Angels. He was an avid golfer. Napa Street, Sonoma, from noon until 5:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will be offered at St. Francis Solano Church, West Napa and 3rd Street West, Sonoma, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at St. Francis Solano Church.
