Thomas Roy

Socrates once said, "Be of good cheer about death and know this as a truth-that no
evil can happen to a good man, either in life or after death." It is with that knowledge
and the deepest of sorrows that I announce the death of a good man, my husband,
Thomas L. Roy, who, at the age of 72 passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, following
a courageous fight with the dreaded Parkinson's disease. Tom was my husband of 31
years, my lover, my best friend, handyman, purveyor of knowledge on everything, a
gourmet cook, a loyal friend, my dancing partner, a fabulous singer and a super snazzy
dresser. Tom was a true "Renaissance Man." I loved him#heart and soul, inside and
out#forever, for always, and no matter what. Tom was born in Phoenix, AZ on October
8, 1936. He had an incredibly exciting life. He joined the Navy at 17, lived and worked
in Hawaii, worked on the island of Guadulan, and finally lived the life of Riley in Mexico
for two years. After returning to the United States, he joined IBM where he worked for
30 years, until he retired in 1989, in Tucson, AZ. We were married, in Longmont, CO,
after dating for only 44 days. Oh, what fun we had together. We traveled everywhere,
went on several cruises, toured New York City, spent many vacations with friends on a
houseboat on Lake Powell, went to Hawaii and vacationed at Rocky Point, Mexico, on
the Sea of Cortez, whenever we could. Tom loved Rocky Point more than anywhere
else. His ashes will be scattered there. Tom is survived by wife, Myrna, (me!); brother,
Rob; stepdaughter, Tracy (Nathan); stepson, Arne (Donna); son, Russell;
daughter-in-law, Donna Ray; several grandchildren and numerous other family
members. Tom's parents and his stepson, David Ray, and many other family members
predeceased him. Thanks to everyone at The Advanced Care Hospital and the staff,
especially Olivia Diaz, at La Posada for being so kind during his final hours. Cremation
has taken place at Baca's Funeral Chapels. A Memorial Service will be held on
Monday, June 15, 2009 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 225 W. Griggs Ave., at
1:00 p.m. with a reception following at the church. Pastor Joe Whitley, officiating.
