Kenneth R "Beaver" Poe Beav was born May 21, 1940, in a two-room log cabin in Warren, Idaho, to Bud and Dot (Wentz) Poe. He had three brothers: Fred, Chuck and Michael. As a family, they lived in Boise, Deadwood, Cascade and eventually returned to Boise. He attended Boise schools, graduated from Boise High School and studied drafting during his two years at Boise Junior College. In 1960 he married Lani Edwards. They had two children, Debbie and Mike. Beav worked for the Bureau of Land Management, with his Uncle Kenny Poe, doing demolition jobs, and began working for the Idaho State Police in 1968. On Nov. 1, 1980, he married Sheila Hild. Beav retired in 1995 after 26 years with the Idaho State Police. He spent the last 14 years thoroughly enjoying his retirement, spending time at his home in Boise and his cabin in "Poeville", a suburb of Centerville. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends; was always busy four-wheeling, mining for gold, hunting for mushrooms, picking huckleberries, digging for bottles and stopping for a cup of coffee whenever and wherever he could. His life journey was completed, full circle, as it started with the call #549 for his patrol car, and ended with the date of his death, May, 4, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Sheila, his brother Fred (Barb) of Boise, his daughter Debbie (Larry) Whitehead of Grangeville and their children Jenny and Anne, son Mike (Tracy) Poe of Meridian and their children Kenny and Megan, a special sister-in-law, Mary Wilhoite of Carson City, Nev. and her children Megan, Mari and Eric, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Beav was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Idaho Peace Officers Association, and a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Beav was preceded in death by his parents Bud and Dot, and his brothers Chuck & Michael. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Heart Association. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at the Eagle Christian Church located at 100 South Short Lane in Eagle, Idaho.
