Markus, Gale Schimmel

Age 90 of Miami, FL, formerly of St. Louis, MO and
Nashville, TN, passed away on April 12, 2010. Born January
27, 1920 in St. Louis, MO, married to Marion Markus of
Duquoin, IL in 1947 and widowed in 1983. Gale held a
Master's degree in Art History, and served as President of
the League of Women Voters in Nashville. She worked
tirelessly for the arts, volunteering at Cheekwood in
Nashville, and sponsoring young artists as a member of
the Society of Arts and Letters in St. Louis. She was a true
patron of the arts. She is survived by a sister, Audrey
(Schimmel) Silverman. She is also survived by her children,
Andrew Joshua Markus of Miami, FL, Timothy Adam
Markus of Miami, FL, Ellen Beth (Markus) Deschatres of St.
Louis, MO and Jonathan David Markus of Melbourne,
Australia; her grandchildren, Benjamin Markus of Miami,
FL, Solange Deschatres of Los Angeles, CA, Anna
Deschatres of St. Louis, MO, Shiloh Markus and Michael
Markus of Miami, FL; her daughters-in-law, Wendy Markus
and Karen Markus of Miami, FL and by a son-in-law, Jean
Deschatres of St. Louis, MO. Funeral service will be held at
Marshall-Donnelly-Combs, 201 - 25th Avenue North,
Nashville, TN 37203 on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 1 p.m.
A graveside service will follow at the Q'Habai Shalom
Cemetery, 2001 - 15th Avenue North. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be sent to PBS or to the Alzheimer's
