Alan R. (Pete) Peterson 81, of Tucson, passed on
peacefully, April 2, 2010. He was born February 27, 1929
in St. David, Arizona, and his family moved to Tucson in
1937. He is preceded in death by his sister, Verda Inscho
and brothers, L.F. and Bruce Peterson. He is survived by
his wife of 55 years, Shirley; daughters, Lee (John) Barr,
Kay Peterson, Lori (David) Kalkwarf, all of Tucson and the
special little dog Rhianna. Also surviving are his brother,
Merlin in Show Low; his sister, Kay in Utah and numerous

with the City of Tucson Public Works Department as an
electrician. He retired as an Assistant Traffic Engineer,
after 30 plus years with the City. Immediately after
leaving the City, he began working with his friends at
Abrams Airborne Manufacturing, where he stayed for
seven years. After the second retirement in 1986, he and
Shirley moved to Cholla Bay, Mexico, where they
remained for 23 years. While there, Pete played a big
role in working with the Mexican government to
establish a process so that USA citizens could own
Mexican land through bank trusts, and getting electric
service run to Cholla Bay. He was very active in and held
many positions in the Cholla Bay Sportsman Club, Old
Boys Social Club, and the Vecinos (homeowners'
association). Pete was a life member of the Elks Club, a
member of IBEW Local 570 for over 60 years, and served
many years as a volunteer instructor of firearm and
hunter safety courses through the Arizona Game and Fish
Department. He enjoyed camping, hunting, flying,
repairing electronic equipment, and growing orchids and
other exotic plants in his greenhouse. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Southern Arizona
Humane Society, 3450 N. Kelvin, Tucson, 85716, or a
