| Peterson, Alan R. Alan R. (Pete) Peterson 81, of Tucson, passed on peacefully, April 2, 2010. He was born February 27, 1929 in St. David, Arizona, and his family moved to Tucson in 1937. He is preceded in death by his sister, Verda Inscho and brothers, L.F. and Bruce Peterson. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley; daughters, Lee (John) Barr, Kay Peterson, Lori (David) Kalkwarf, all of Tucson and the special little dog Rhianna. Also surviving are his brother, Merlin in Show Low; his sister, Kay in Utah and numerous nieces and nephews. Pete attended Menlo Park Elementary, Safford Junior High, and graduated from Tucson High School in 1947, where he lettered with the track team. Very shortly after graduation, he began work with the City of Tucson Public Works Department as an electrician. He retired as an Assistant Traffic Engineer, after 30 plus years with the City. Immediately after leaving the City, he began working with his friends at Abrams Airborne Manufacturing, where he stayed for seven years. After the second retirement in 1986, he and Shirley moved to Cholla Bay, Mexico, where they remained for 23 years. While there, Pete played a big role in working with the Mexican government to establish a process so that USA citizens could own Mexican land through bank trusts, and getting electric service run to Cholla Bay. He was very active in and held many positions in the Cholla Bay Sportsman Club, Old Boys Social Club, and the Vecinos (homeowners' association). Pete was a life member of the Elks Club, a member of IBEW Local 570 for over 60 years, and served many years as a volunteer instructor of firearm and hunter safety courses through the Arizona Game and Fish Department. He enjoyed camping, hunting, flying, repairing electronic equipment, and growing orchids and other exotic plants in his greenhouse.
