FOX, Mary I. (Age 92)

Passed away February 19, 2009 in Spokane, WA.She was born July 3, 1916 at
Sprankle Mills, PA to Jacob and Nora (Baughman) Mauk. She was raised at Sprankle
Mills and attended schools there. Mary moved to Oakesdale, WA 1936 where she
worked as a cook on the Sam Crow farm. Mary married Chester H. Fox on October 7,
1939 at Oakesdale, WA and the couple made their home south of Oakesdale where
they farmed. In 1968, the couple moved into Oakesdale from their farm home. Her
husband Chester died in October of 1970. Mary continued to make her home at
Oakesdale until moving to Spokane in 2006. She has been a resident of the Thies
Adult Family Home in Fairfield for the past year. Mrs. Fox worked at Crossett's Food
Market in Oakesdale from 1962 - 1967 as a clerk, operated a restaurant in Oakesdale
from 1971 thru 1974, and worked for McCoy's Craft Village in Spokane from 1975 until
retirement in 1979. She was a member of the Oakesdale Community Presbyterian
Church, and a former member of the Oakesdale Grange, the Rebekah Lodge, and the
Oakesdale Bridge Club. Mary worked for many years as a volunteer for the Oakesdale
Museum. She enjoyed cooking and baking, flower and vegetable gardening,
crocheting, knitting, and making afghans. Survivors include one son, Kenneth Fox and
his wife Sylvia of Genesee, ID; one daughter, Dorene Prior and her husband Roger of
Spokane, WA; two brothers, Jacob Mauk of Spokane, WA and James Mauk of Butler,
PA; seven grandchildren, Curt Prior, Kelly Prior, Derek Fox, Kris Carlson, Lynn Noland,
Tiffany Teem, and Tracy Morgan; 13 great grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild. Two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death. Funeral
services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 1:00P.M. at the Community
Presbyterian Church in Oakesdale, WA. Pastor Erik Buhl will officiate at the service and
burial will follow at the Oakesdale Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to the
Shriner's Hospital for Children, PO Box 2472, Spokane, Washington, 99210-2472.
