BROWN, Leland Harold (Age 82)
Died December 14, 2008, after a short illness. Leland was born February 28, 1926, in
Los Angeles, California at the family home to Roy and Lela (Anderton) Brown.
The family moved to Oakland, CA in 1943 where Leland graduated from Fremont High
School. A few months later he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and spent five months training
at Farragut, Idaho on Lake Pend Oreille. He served in the Pacific Theatre for three
years during World War II. After the war, Leland held bookkeeping jobs and met his
future wife Lydia in 1948 while working together at the Hotel Leamington in Oakland,
CA. They married in 1950 and Leland began his career in the grocery business
spanning 38 years until retiring in 1988. During his cherished summer vacations, Leland
drove 1000 miles one-way to beautiful Priest Lake, Idaho, to camp, water ski and enjoy
family time with his wife and children. In 2002, Leland moved to the part of the country
that was so dear to his heart - Priest River, Idaho. He quickly made numerous friends
and built his dream home near the rivers edge.
Leland is survived by his children Carrie (Charly) Falter, Priest River, ID; Christine
(Patrick) Carey, Port Orchard, WA; Tom (Teri) Brown, San Lorenzo, CA; Don (Ellen)
Hildebrand, Folsom, CA. Grandchildren Steve (Claire) Voorhies, Pleasant Hill, CA; Erik
(Laura) Falter, Park City, UT; Chris (Mindy) Falter, Puyallup, WA; Ryan and Michael
Brown, CA; Scott and Eric Hildebrand, CA; Polli Carey, WA; and Caitlyn Brown, CA.
Great Grandchildren James and Sophia Voorhies, CA; Reilly and Ally Falter, UT;
Michael Falter, WA; and Riley Brown, CA. Brothers Don, Darrel, and Vince Brown, OR.
Special friend Lucy Foley, CA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lydia, daughter Jane Voorhies,
brother Roy Brown, sister Betty Bailey, and an infant brother.
In lieu of flowers a donation to Bonner Community Hospice, PO Box 1448, Sandpoint,
ID, 83864 would be appreciated.
Funeral Services will take place on Saturday Dec 20h at 1 p.m. at the
SHERMAN-KNAPP FUNERAL HOME IN PRIEST RIVER.
