Brennand, Thomas Clifford

Thomas C. Brennand, 76, quietly passed away on March
22, 2010 in Folsom, California. Tom was most known
for his great intelligence and humor, as well as his
devotion to his family.

Tom was born June 4, 1933 in Long Beach California
where he grew up serving as a Boy Scout, altar boy,
scholar and athlete. He graduated with honors from
Long Beach Poly High School in 1951 and enrolled at
Long Beach City College the following year. While in
college, Tom met Donna Peterson while they were
both working part-time at a local drug store. They
dated, fell in love and were married in 1953.

Tom joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and was quickly
selected for Officer's Candidate School. In 1953, Tom
and Donna moved to Fort Benning, Georgia, where
Tom finished his training and graduated as a second
lieutenant. Deciding to embark on a military career,
kept the family on the move. Tom was sent to serve at
Ft. Lewis, Wash. in 1954 where his first son Mike was
born that year and his second son Pat was born the
following year. In 1956, Tom was transferred to a
military base in South Korea for a year as Donna and
the two boys moved to southern California to be with
relatives. Following Korea, the Brennand family moved
to Ft. Dix, New Jersey where Tom and Donna's 3rd son
Terry was born in 1958. From New Jersey, it was on to
Ft. Richardson Alaska, where Tom and Donna's
youngest son Chris was born in 1960. After 3 years in
Alaska the family kept up with military tradition and
moved about the country. In the 60s, the family moved
to Ft. Benning, GA in 1962, Grand Rapids, MI from '63
to '66. From 1966 to 1967 Tom, now a captain, served
a year tour of duty in Vietnam as a company
commander. Tom served with honor and distinction
during the war, in the Central Highlands and Saigon,
earning a Bronze Star during his duty. Tom and family
were transferred to Ft. Monroe, VA where Tom was
promoted to the rank of Major in 1968. After serving 3
years at Ft. Monroe, Tom was sent back to South Korea
for a year before the family moved permanently to
California for a stint at Ft. Ord, CA. in 1971. While in
Salinas, Tom was promoted to Lt. Colonel and retired
from the Army after a honorable and distinguished
career in 1977.

While in Salinas, Tom and Donna were able to see all
four sons grow up, graduate from high school and
college and get married. After, 20 years in Salinas, Tom
and Donna moved to Folsom, CA, looking for a change
in scenery and new adventures. Tom spent the last 20
years of his life doing what he loved best, spending
time with friends and family throughout California.
Tom seldom missed a graduation, first communion,
wedding, basketball game or any event involving his 6
grandchildren, his sons, or nieces. For the last two
years, Tom spoke fondly of his wife of 51 years,
Donna, and his sister Barbara Conlisk and brother
Johnny Harris. He loved to tell both sad and funny
stories of their times together in Long Beach, Salinas
and Folsom. No one will ever forget Tom's warmth,
quick wit, hearty laugh and encyclopedic knowledge.

Tom is survived by his sons Mike (Shannon) of San
Antonio, TX, Pat (Vivian) of Salinas, Terry (Nancy) of
Folsom and Chris (Sandy) of Burlingame. He is also
survived by grandsons, Chris of Houston TX, Kevin of
Biloxi, Miss., Scott of San Francisco, and Alec of Chico
and granddaughters, Alexandra and Kristen of
Burlingame. Tom was preceded in death by his wife
Donna in 2004, his parents, his sister Barbara and his
brother Johnny.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 26, 2010
at 3 PM at Miller Funeral Home 507 Scott St., Folsom,
Calif., followed by a reception at Tom's home, 135
Teceira Way, Folsom. In lieu of flowers, donations can
