Bingham, Fred H.

86, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away
on March 27, 2010. Preceded in death by his first wife
Sallie, he is survived by his current wife Mary, sons, Skip
and John, 4 stepchildren, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great
grandchildren. A fourth generation Arizonan, he was born
in Thatcher in 1923, the youngest child of Maggie and
Warren Bingham. Fred attended Safford High School
where he was an all-state football player. After leaving
Safford for a year of college at Arizona State Teachers
College (NAU) he joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 and
served as a B-29 pilot in the Pacific Theater during World
War II. Returning to college in 1946 Fred graduated with
both Bachelors and Masters Degrees and during the next
35 years he served as teacher, coach and school
administrator in the Arizona education system. Starting at
Parker High School in Parker, Arizona in 1948 he moved
to Phoenix and Sunnyslope High in 1953 and on to
Cortez High in 1976 where he retired as the school
principal in 1983. He was a highly respected teacher and
coach (1959 Class AA State Football Champions at
Sunnyslope) and as an outstanding school administrator,
serving as president of the AAA Athletic Conference.
Active in the Optimist Club and his church (LDS) he will
be greatly missed by his family and friends. A service will
be held on Friday, April 2nd, at the LDS Church located at
8840 N. 61st Ave., Glendale, AZ 85302. A viewing will be
held at 9:00 am followed by the service at 10:00 am.
