Please visit her online guest book at www.chapel-of-the-chimes.com. Evelyn was born October 28, 1914, to William and Lenora Urton in Chula, Missouri. She graduated from high school in Chillicothe, MO and attended a Missouri teacher's college for two years. She moved to Missoula, Montana to work for her uncle in his mortgage and insurance company until her marriage to Jack Donnell. They lived briefly in Spokane, WA where her two children, Jacki and Bill, were born, then moved in 1951 to Boise, ID. Evelyn was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and Worthy Matron for Rainbow Girls; involved as a Cub Scout and Brownie leader; volunteered for the Red Cross and in the late 50's served first as secretary and then president of Boise Music Week. She was honored in 2002 as the oldest surviving president at a special Boise Week presentation. In 1963 she moved to Eugene, OR to take on the difficult task of a sorority housemother. She often talked about the many interesting experiences she had being the "mom" to so many college girls. Evelyn moved back to Boise in 1967 to become secretary to the Dean of Men at Boise State University. She retired from that position and then was asked to return to work at BSU's vocational adult education department before retiring once again when she was in her 70's. Evelyn was a consummate homemaker, accomplished gardener and crafter. She loved needlework and was proud of winning a blue ribbon at the Idaho State Fair for a crewel embroidery submitted by a friend. In her 80's she was a volunteer "grandma" at Cole Elementary School to dozens of first and second graders. She was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and needlework. She also loved to sing; she knew all the lyrics to tunes from the 20's, 30's, 40's, and 50's as well as many old hymns. Evelyn was fiercely independent; she had a wonderful wit and sense of humor and will be remembered for her laughter and feisty spirit. Evelyn leaves behind a daughter, Jacki Donnell Amos and her husband Art, of Davis, CA, and their sons Kirk Amos (wife, Yvonne Stemwedel) of Santa Rosa, CA, Jeremy Amos (wife, Karen Atkinson, children, Kate and Bess) of Clayton, CA; a son, Bill G. Donnell and his wife Christine of Meridian, Idaho, his two daughters, Julie Donnell of Boston, MA, Lisa Donnell Wenninger (husband, Erik,) two step-daughters, Stacy Coolberth (husband, Phil) and Trisha Dunkle (husband, Gary), five step-grandchildren and one nephew, Bruce Howell of Ritzville, WA. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Edgar and Ervin Urton and her ex- husband, Jack Donnell. The family would like to thank the staff at Meridian Care and Rehabilitation Center, Assisted Living wing, and Four Rivers Hospice for the exceptional loving care they provided for our mom. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to a charity of your choice. Published in Idaho Statesman on March 24, 2010 |
