Knipe, Edith C.

Edith "Tita" Counter Knipe 96, mother, sister, daughter,
gardener, pioneer, reader, teacher, linguist, activist, stylist,
pianist, conversationalist, guardian and friend. Born in Tucson,
she lost her father James when she was three. Her mother was
Eleanor; her sister, Genevieve; her stepfather, Harry Sellers.
Tita married Frederic Orlando Knipe, Jr., a local builder who
died in 1969. She earned an English degree at the University of
Arizona and raised five children who survive her, Peter, Fred,
Mary, Nina and David. Her nine grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren brought immense joy to her extraordinary
life. Tita was kind, intelligent and magnetic. She will be
sorely missed, but for all who knew her, the memory of her
beauty and magnificence will always be vivid. Edith C. Knipe
will be interred at a brief ceremony next Tuesday, October 11,
2011, at Holy Hope Cemetery, 3555 North Oracle Road at 4:00 p.m.
