Baker, Robert O.

BAKER, ROBERT OAKE August 18, 1947 to September 19, 2011 A San
Diego native and life-long resident, Robert Oake Baker was best
known to family and friends as Bob, "The Babe," and "Bubba."
Passionate about the sea and fishing from a young age, Bob grew
up working on the sport boats at Fisherman's Landing. He
graduated from Crawford High School in 1965. From 1967 to 1973,
he served his country in the United States Airforce and was
given an honorable discharge. Upon completing his military
duties, Bob flourished in the San Diego community, developing
deep ties through his professional and personal endeavors,
including the establishment of Industrial Supply Distributors, a
family-owned business serving companies throughout San Diego
County. As a sports and outdoor enthusiast, Bob participated in
youth and community athletics as a little league baseball coach,
soccer coach, and player on several intramural teams. Bob
especially enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, trap
shooting, and boating to Catalina. Throughout his adult life,
Bob's greatest passion, however, remained the sea. As a Flag
Member of Southwestern Yacht Club, Bob spent much of his free
time on his boat, the "Talisman", (recently known as his
"sandcastle") and was a prominent figure at the Club, serving on
the Board of Directors and as President and active member of the
Angler's Club. His quick wit and incredible knowledge of the
water was matched only by his kindness and generosity of spirit.
His presence will be missed by fellow Club members, family,
colleagues, customers, and friends. Bob was not only a loving
husband, father, and papa; he was a mentor and someone to look
up to. He leaves behind a loving family to which he was
incredibly devoted, including his best friend and wife of 25
years Corinne, sons Ryan and Aaron, daughters Kim and Debbie,
precious grandchildren Jordyn, Andie, Natalie, Jake and Aiden,
brother Eric, and family through marriage including Jason,
Ariel, Kara and Kelly. His parents, Ann and George, preceded him
in death. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30
a.m. on Tuesday, October 18th, at the Southwestern Yacht Club,
2502 Qualtrough Street, San Diego, CA 92106, followed by a light
lunch. A Burial at Sea procession will immediately follow lunch
at approximately 2:00 p.m. Since Bob was a big supporter of
youth activities, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
Legacy Church, 9019 Park Plaza Dr., Ste. C, La Mesa, CA 91942.
Please reference Bob Baker Youth Activities. You may also send
donations to the charity of your choice in memory of Bob Baker.
