Blackie, Douglas Hopkins

Born in November 1928 in San Francisco, Calif., the son of Edwin
and Helen Blackie, Doug Blackie died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011,
with his loving family at his Los Osos home. He went to Lowell
High School in San Francisco, where he excelled at basketball,
as well as golf - he was a two handicap player. After he served
in the U.S. Army at Ft. Ord during the Korean War, he graduated
with a degree in Accounting from Golden Gate College in San
Francisco. Doug married Shirley Baker in 1955, who died in 1999
in Los Osos. He worked as an accountant for Kaiser Steel, Santa
Maria Railroad and finally for the Tri-Counties Blood Bank. He
had played golf with Central Coast Golf Clubs since 1995. The
family wishes to thank Marion Hospice for their loving care.
Doug is survived by his wife, Lu Ann Blackie; son, Stephen
Blackie (Kimberley); daughter, Victoria Morelli (Don): two
granddaughters Amy and Sarah Morelli; great-grandson, Izaiaha
Wright; stepdaughter Kathleen Lonergan; and step-granddaughters
Rachel White and Amelia and Artemis Xenakis. A service will be
held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Baywood Park
Community Church, 1436 11th St. in Los Osos. Donations can be
made in his memory to Marion Hospice.
