| Havens, Elizabeth Hoskins Darlington Elizabeth "Betty" Hoskins Darlington Havens, wife of Joseph Buckley Havens, passed from this life on August 12, 2011 at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Joseph Benson Darlington and Phyllis Hoskins Darlington of Westfield, NJ, and sister of the late Joseph Benson Darlington, Jr. Betty was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania on October 7, 1918. Her childhood was spent in Westfield, New Jersey, where she attended Westfield schools and graduated from Westfield High School in 1936. Betty D., as she was known to all of her friends, graduated from Wellesley College, class of 1940, with a BA degree in Art History. She completed an apprenticeship at the Newark Museum in Newark, NJ, 1940-1941. From 1941-1944 she was on staff at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC, NY. She married Joseph Havens, at the time a 1st Lt. in the US Army on April 21, 1944. During the war, she was a member of the American Red Cross, serving on staff at Moore General Hospital in Swannanoa, North Carolina, in 1945. After she had raised her two children, Betty worked for 17 years as Assistant Director for College Clubs in the Alumnae Office at Wellesley College, retiring in 1981. For the next 15 years, she also served as the regional fund representative for the Class of 1940 Alumnae for Wellesley College in Maine. She and Joe lived in Natick and then Wellesley, Massachusetts where she was active in the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Wellesley for 30 years. Betty was also a member of the Wellesley, MA Choral Society for 8 years, for she loved to sing. Betty and Joe retired to Kennebunk, Maine in the Spring of 1985, where they became active in their Condo Association and devoted members of St. David's Episcopal Church. Betty was active there on the Altar Guilt, the church's Budget Box village consignment shop, the Flower Guild, the Blue Bird singing group and various other church committees. She also served as a hospital volunteer for Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine from 1985 - 2007, earning her 20 years of service pin, in addition to being a member of the Sea Coast Garden Club of the Kennebunks for 11 years. Betty is survived by her husband Joseph and her son Robert Atkinson Havens of Sidney, Nebraska; her daughter Phyllis Darlington Havens and son-in-law Roland Mayhew of Hampden, Maine; one grandson, Sky Havens Mayhew of New York City, and granddaughter Elizabeth Aster Mayhew and her fianc Andrew Matson of Brighton, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews, Judi Havens and husband Rico Ferrari, Jan Havens Greer and husband Chilton Greer, Thomas and Veronica Darlington, Cathy Darlington Langrehr, and Jody Darlington and wife Bonnie of Antigua, Guatemala. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 19, 2011 at St. David's Episcopal Church in Kennebunk with Father Daniel Riggall. Interment will follow in St. David's Memorial Garden.
