Poulson, Elizabeth Anne 1923-2011. Elizabeth Anne Fuellgraf
was born on September 10, 1923 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to
Anne and Albert Fuellgraf. She graduated as Valedictorian
of her class at Pickett High School in 1940. She married
her high school sweetheart, John Stewart Poulson, in 1941.
John enlisted in the Army Air Corps shortly after the onset
of the Second World War and Liz accompanied his as an
Officer's wife on his twenty-five year career as a pilot in
the Air Force. She truly enjoyed her role and relished the
opportunity to travel to new and exciting duty stations in
Tripoli, Libya, Newfoundland, and Germany, in addition to
various Air Force Bases in California, Arizona, New York,
Colorado, and Texas. She never tired of relocating and
making new friends, attending the formal functions and
enhancing her golfing and bowling skills with the other
Officers' wives. During that period of time she and John
raised nine wonderful children, insuring that they
appreciated the foreign countries in which they lived, were
aware of the vastly different cultures in which they found
themselves and learned the love of travel and the need for
education. When John retired from the military and they
moved to Arizona, Liz decided to earn her own college
degree, and began Arizona State University while in her
mid-fifties. She proceeded to earn a Bachelors Degree in
Fine Arts, attended the American University in Paris for
two full summers, and finally completed a Masters Degree in
Art History in 1984. She was extremely proud of her degrees
and her knowledge of the arts, and eagerly embarked on her
own career as an Art Professor at several colleges and
universities in the Phoenix area for the next fifteen
years. In addition to her mothering duties and educational
pursuits, Liz was an inveterate traveler, having visited
over a hundred countries around the world, taking numerous
cruises and visiting her beloved Paris with her husband in
excess of fifty times. She never tired of telling tales
about her various trips and the delightful people they met
around the world. Elizabeth Poulson is survived by her
eight remaining children and their spouses, nine
grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by John, her husband of sixty-five years,
and her eldest daughter, Diane.
