Hartzell, Harold R. Captain, Marine Corps. Loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Born August 25, 1920, passed away January 15, 2010. Survived by his wife, Beulah of 65 years, son, Harold R. Hartzell, Jr. and wife Betsy of Cottage Grove, Oregon; daughter, Hollis Anne Petrocchi and husband, Dan of Sacramento; son Stephen and wife Lisa of Sacramento; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Captain Hartzell flew torpedo bombers in the Pacific in World War II. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross after bombing a Japanese ship, having the tail of his plane shot off and flying 300 miles over water with crew and landing safely. After his death, his family received a letter from Pres. Obama acknowledging his DFC. We loved him dearly and miss him. Published in The Sacramento Bee on September 12, 2010
