Rhoades, Carman F. "Dusty" Dusty died peacefully in Arvada, CO on September 4, 2010 with his children at his side. He was born in Plainview, Nebraska on November 15, 1918, and moved with his family to Mt. Vernon, Washington in 1927. Dusty is survived by his daughter Leslie Wheeler and her husband Jack of Arvada, CO, his son Rick Rhoades of Mt. Shasta, CA, his grandson Scott Wheeler and his wife Jennifer of Dallas, TX, his granddaughter Shelley Ledall and her husband Curt of Westminster, CO, his granddaughter Harmony Rhoades and her husband Ryan Thomson of San Diego, CA, and his grandson Leif Rhoades of Mt. Shasta, CA. Dusty married Dorothy Ann Hardy in 1942. Dorothy Ann died in 1972, and he married Eunice Bird in 1974. Eunice died in 1999. Dusty graduated in the second graduating class at Luke Air Force Base in 1941 as a second Lieutenant, and was an Army Air Force pilot in WWII. He was held captive as a prisoner of war in Germany. Dusty survived three plane crashes while in the service. After the war, Dusty was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. He left the Air Force in 1946, and became the owner of Scottsdale Liquor in 1957. Dusty retired in 1980. He was a devoted father and grandfather, loved to travel, play golf, exercise, play poker, and read. Dusty possessed a terrific sense of humor, and was loved by many. A private service will be held for his immediate family. Donations in his behalf may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Banner Alzheimer's Institute.
