McCarty, Roswitha Ursula May 23, 1943 to July 30, 2010 It is with great sadness that the family of Roswitha McCarty announces her passing away after her heroic three year struggle against ovarian cancer. Born in Germany and raised in post-WWII Berlin, Roswitha had unique and colorful childhood experiences. She played amongst the bombed-out buildings and experienced the Berlin Airlift. Along with many innocents traumatized and displaced by the aftermath of the war, her playmates included children of many communities, some of them gypsies whom she recalled with great affection. Although she completed her education in Germany, she continued a life-long journey of learning in the U.S. and earned her AA Degree in English in 1974. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1964 and obtained her U.S. citizenship in 1972. With her first husband, Roland Heuschele, she raised her two sons, Daniel and Michael in Bonita, CA. Roswitha was a Cub Scout Den Leader and the unofficial "Mom" to many neighborhood children who gathered at her house to swim and play. To this day, many of those adult "children" continue to refer to her affectionately as Mom. After her children were older she entered the work force as a bookkeeper for Johnson and Sons Electric. She subsequently worked her way up to manager of Foothill Electric, then Dawn Electric before she founded McCarty Electric with her second husband Ralph "Mac" McCarty. Roswitha and Mac spearheaded their succesful business for the past twenty years. Her entrepreneurial interests also extended to real estate investments in San Diego and Alabama. Apart from being a formidable business woman, she was respected by many associates in the field who revered her sincere and genuine friendship. Always eager to experience life to its fullest measure, Roswitha had a passion for travel and entertaining. She cherised time with family and friends, cooking, attending concerts, and appreciating art. Roswitha's generosity and open heart attracted all whom she invited to share her gourmet meals and beautiful garden. Her limitless hospitality endeared her to a host of acquaintances who considered her as family. A talented and natural artist, Roswitha loved to draw, paint, macrame and work with clay. She constantly had an art project in the making; many family and friends' homes are decorated with her creations. She was an ardent supporter of the San Diego arts, theatre and symphony and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Her mission was to provide all those in need of nourishment not only with food, but also with a spirit of welcome and acceptance. She is survived by her husband Ralph "Mac" McCarty of Bonita, sons Daniel Heuschele (wife Carol) of Poway and Michael Heuschele of Point Loma, gandson Kyle, and many extended family and friends. A celebration of Roswitha's life is planned for the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (www.ocrf.org) or the charity of your choice.
