Baker, Jonathan G.
Kasilof resident Jonathan G. Baker, 55, died Thursday, Aug.
19, 2010, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna after a
long illness.
A memorial Mass will be held 5 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of
Perpetual Help, 222 W. Redoubt Ave. in Soldotna. The Rev.
Joe Dowling, OMI, will officiate. A gathering and potluck will
follow the service at the Eagles Club, 5679 Kenai Spur
Highway between Kenai and Soldotna. For those who plan to
attend the services, the family requests that an article of
clothing be green, as it was his favorite color. Those who
have photos of Jon to share with family and friends are
invited to bring them. His cremated remains will be scattered
in Crooked Creek at a later date.
Mr. Baker was born Feb. 13, 1955, in La Jolla, Calif. He
graduated high school from Kenai Central High School.
Jonathan moved to Kasilof in 1965, living there most his life
until moving to Soldotna. He worked for ASRC for 25 years
before retiring. Jonathan loved gold panning and metal
detecting.
The family wrote, "Jon will be missed by his longtime friend
"Biggie Baker, the Boys of the Kenai Peninsula and all who
knew him."
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Ione
McNeils; uncle, Danny McNeils; and Grandma and Grandpa
Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Hogan-Baker of Soldotna;
daughter, Christina Hogan of Anchorage; stepson, Tim Hogan
of Anchorage; mother, Suzanne Miller of Olympia, Wash.;
stepfather, Ron Miller of Olympia; brothers, Jeffrey Scott
Baker of Oregon and James Matthew Baker of California;
grandchildren, Naa and Nique of Anchorage.
