Alfonsi, Paul Paul Alfonsi, 67, died peacefully Aug. 19, 2010, at his home in Anchorage. A viewing and rosary will take place at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Cathedral, 800 W. Fifth Ave., with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Paul was born Jan. 18, 1943, in New York, N.Y. He spent eight years in the Air Force, then worked as a technical representative for calibration labs on various military bases. Afterward, he became a biomedical technician. Paul moved to Alaska with his family in 1991 and lived in Bethel until 2006, when he moved to Anchorage. With his expertise, he saved lives by heading the biomedical department of the Yukon Kuskokwim Regional Hospital in Bethel for 13 years. His tireless insistence on excellence led to positive and lasting changes in the places where he worked and the lives he touched. Truly an energetic Alaskan with a zest for life, he loved fishing in the boat he restored, snowmachining every winter, subsistence hunting and cooking. He enjoyed hosting a volunteer radio show called "Latin Slant." He was a private pilot who loved adventure and flew from Puerto Rico to Alaska in his small airplane. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Bethel. He is survived in Alaska by his wife of 37 years, Marie; daughter, Annette; sister-in-law, Eleanor Alfonsi; and nephew, Kristopher Alfonsi. He is survived on the East Coast by his brother, sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Paul will be remembered for his jovial attitude, his great sense of humor and his devotion to his family.
