| Phillips, Carmen Romero Burruel Carmen Romero Phillips (Burruel) Born January 19, 1921, Silverbell, Arizona. Formerly of Tucson, AZ, and Corpus Christi, TX. Recently of Hudson, MA. Our dear mother, Carmen died suddenly at 89 years young in the company of family, Saturday, August 7, 2010. Loving daughter of Jesus Romero and Brijida Burruel Romero, one of nine children, survived by her two sisters, Mercy Pesquiera and Bobbie (Easy) Aragon of Arizona and sister-in-law, Ann Romero of California. Received her BS Science from St. Mary's College of Nursing. Veteran of WW II serving as a flight nurse at Stockton AFB in CA, achieving the rank of 1st Lt. before commissioning out in 1945. Proud to have served, after the war she moved to Corpus Christi, TX to begin her 43 year career as a Registered Nurse. There she met and married, Charles A Phillips (div., deceased) in 1947; they had four children, Chuck Phillips and Christina Hanson of Tucson, Camille Allen (Drew) of Loudonville, NY and Connie Mortara of Hudson, MA. In 1961 she moved her family back to Tucson and began working at St. Joseph's Hospital in the OR until she retired in 1985. She remained active with her nursing colleagues and was a member of the AORN and The American Red Cross for her whole life. Member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Tucson, AZ, The American Legion and a Mariachi fan forever. Beloved Nana to 16 grandchildren, Jeremy, Kevin, Lisa, Mark, Nicole, Carmen, John, Veronica, Trevor, Gloria, Stefanie, Philip, Rachel, Teresa, Emily and Sydney and "Nana-nana", by four great-grandsons, Grayson, Estevan, Kai and Ethan. She will be missed by untold numbers of cousins, in-laws and outlaws, and her favorite companion Tortuga. Funeral Services to be held on two coasts, the first on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211. The second, at St. Joseph's Church, 215 S. Craycroft Rd., Tucson, AZ 85711, on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Followed by interment at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, Tucson, AZ. Contributions may be made in honor of Carmen R.
